The aim of this close audiovisual analysis is to expose how Jacques Tati’s playful and comical PLAYTIME (1967) conveys a critical comment on the effects that modern urban rationalism has on the individual and the culture. To illustrate my point, I’ve chosen a specific and brief scene from the movie. It presents a simple and very basic joke that seems to be demonstrative to Tati’s entire approach.
